Rajatraj Ramesan and Kavya Sudhir Gangadhar led a brilliant display, helping New Vision Badminton Sport (NVBS) trainees grab a rich haul of medals during the QRC Spring Series races in various categories. Ramesan, part of a 35-player NVBS group and an upcoming 14 -year-old shuttler clocked minutes, 19.6 seconds to win the Under-15 boys 3K run, beating Gullanam Alinier, who came home in 11:50.2.
In the previous event, Ramesan had a silver medal to his credit but this time, he prepared better and put in a much stronger showing on his way to the victory. Dhruv Magabandhu, another NVBS trainee was fourth With 12:33.8. Among the girls, Kavya Gangadhar excelled and clinched the Under-II Girls 3K title. The10 -year-old Gangadhar and her teammate Riya Kurian had a spirited battle for the title. However, it was Gangadhar, who eventually led the podium sweep with a time of 13:47.2. Kurian was second in 14:06.4.
The third place went to NVBS player Adlyn Mary Sojan (14:55.6) In the Under-II boys 3,000m run, Shreyas Reddy Chilka, aged nine, provided a tough resistance to winner Bilal Idris. Chilka was narrowly beaten on the home stretch by Idris, who clocked 12 minutes and 57.1 seconds. Chilka took 13 minutes to finish runner-up, ahead of NVBS entry Arjun Rao, who posted a 13:02.1. Another silver medal came to NVBS when Sanjana Upadhyay in the Under-15 Girls 3,000m run. She took 14:58.9 to pocket the second spot behind winner Audrey Stigter, the 14-year-old hitting the tape in 14:46.5. Joylene Colaco, aged 11, clinched another medal for the badminton academy squad, as she finished third in 14:55.6.
Though no medals and being quite young in their respective age groups, some players of the NVBS turned in inspiring performances and drew warm praises from the spectators and the organizers. Andriya Sojan Carlos (aged five plus) and Trisha Margabandhu (aged seven) in the Under-II Girls category, Namish Gangadhar (aged six) and Adon Liju Cherian (aged five plus) completed the race in under 20 minutes.
NVBS Head Coach Afzal was delighted with the performance of his badminton trainees and said: “It was a fantastic day for the NVBS trainees who won so many medals. We’ll work harder to gain more fitness and more medals in the next event.”
Manoj Sahibjan, the NVBS Founder & Chief Coach, was also thrilled with the intensity and good fitness levels of his trainees. He commented on the occasion: “We pay a lot of attention to the fitness of our trainees and this superb haul of medals reflects that. I want to congratulate all the medal winners and expect they will try to improve their time in the future runs” I wish to make mention Ramesan, who is a highly talented player in our academy. He is the best under-15 shuttler in Qatar. He is very committed and passionate about the sport. The academy wishes to give him exposure when the flight restrictions are removed. With the kind of promise he has, Ramesan will create a lot of headlines as he progresses,” Sahibjan added.
